Four-legged agility and two-legged tenacity
Saturday’s annual gala in Ingleton is celebrated as its longest-running, annual event and for Ingleton Rural Community Association it is the main fundraiser for local causes. This year’s was once again attended by hundreds of people, coming from far and wide and they were treated to a variety of activities ranging from ‘guess the weight of the cake’, feeding and admiring the cuddly Greenside Alpacas, a ‘bucking bronco’ and a fabulous, main ring display by Pendle Dog Agility. Beautifully trained, the dogs showed enthusiasm and skill to scale ramps and run through tunnels to the delight of those attending.
Dales Jam provided musical entertainment throughout the day and led the parade off from Ingleton Primary School, along its usual route through the village. This year’s Gala Queen Shauna Danskin and her retinue waved to onlookers, from their beautifully decorated trailer; radiant in the sunshine. Attendants were: Finn Durkin, Ella Burrow, Annabel Bibby, Gemma Tyrie, Flo Nicholls, Thea Downing and Ella Bibby.
Almost 200 hundred runners entered the Senior Ingleborough Mountain Race this year and four records were broken. The winner of the men’s race, Steve Hebbethwaite of Keswick ran through the finish line in 47 minutes and 12 seconds, which was fastest for a number of years, but still some four minutes short of the long-standing record; the first senior lady home, Hannah Horsburgh, also of Keswick, broke the women’s senior record by 10 seconds, completing the run in 52 minutes and 49 seconds. The over 60 men’s, over 60 ladies' and over 70 men’s records were also broken. Dave McGonnigal, race organiser explained that there had been a good tail wind on the ascent, which probably helped conditions and times. There were runners entering from as far as Guildford, East Fife and an entry from Vancouver in Canada.
It was another wonderful, day and the committee was most grateful to all sponsors, contributors and volunteers for helping to bring together this much-loved annual event, which contributes to local causes and raises much needed funds. Thank you
